Today I came home to only find out that my beloved dog had passed away. At first I didn’t know how to react. My mind was in a state of shock as I didn’t want to accept the fact that she was gone. A few hours went by and my mood had definitely shifted. How do you cope with watching something grow up right before your eyes who had now left the Earth. Something that was so close and dear to you, that you considered them to be family. We may not have spoke the same language although we understood each other. On days where things weren’t going my way I would find myself talking to her. Letting out my feelings to this fur creature who would lick my hands and whine for food. Even so, she would listen and sit by my side as I’d do what they call venting. Surely enough I had friends to go to and people to comfort me. But it just wasn’t the same. Whenever I talked to Shelly she would sit in silence without making a move and just listen. Sometimes that’s all you really need-is someone to listen. The years went by and she began to age. She may have gotten older, but her heart was still young. It’s only been less than a day since her passing and I could already feel the weight taking place. It’s not the same anymore, nor will it ever be. I often hear the neighborhood dogs barking and I feel an emptiness coincide with all the ruckus. The backyard is more quieter as she will never walk these plains of grass again. Her dog house still stands as the impressions of her body are in embedded in the blankets. She will be missed and never forgotten. If there was ever a place in heaven for such a kind hearted dog, she would be right there waiting until her owner was by her side again.
